New from OATH: Omnibus Status Conferences

Hearing season has come early this year. In years past, the earliest hearings would be typically held in February, but in the past December alone, Gottlieb & Wang LLP took 20 cases to hearing.

OATH Update

We’re pleased to say Impartial Hearing Officers (IHOs) have been appointed to each of our cases for the 2022-2023 school year. Last year, in excess of 50% of our clients did not immediately receive a hearing officer. This year, that number has dropped precipitously to something in the area of 15%, and we are very encouraged by this.

Advocacy in Practice: Silence is Golden

It’s impossible to know what sorts of personalities are going to be involved in an impartial hearing. As a litigator, my job is to get the judge on my side and then, frankly, shut up. Recently I made a hearing appearance where I did just that — and then witnessed an interesting clash of personalities between the hearing officer and another attorney who hadn’t yet learned this invaluable lesson.
