A Great New Addition to The Lang School

I recently attended the installation ceremony for Mark Otto, the new Headmaster at The Lang School. It was an extraordinary event.

Lang is a fantastic school for children commonly described as twice exceptional, often abbreviated as “2e.” In practical terms, this typically means that they are somewhere on the autism spectrum, but are cognitively above average — and in some cases gifted. I was really pleased to have been included among the guests, thanks to a client and good friend who is on the board of directors. It was great to see clients who I haven't encountered in person for quite a long time. Colleagues were also in attendance, like Sherif Moussa, who was formerly a DOE attorney and is now a gifted parent attorney in his own right.

One anecdote that particularly impressed me was shared by a former colleague of Headmaster Otto. Mark was working at another school when a graduating student, a senior, was accepted to college in Florida. Due to a family emergency, nobody was able to transport him down to begin classes in Florida. Mark Otto dropped everything and drove the kid down to Florida himself, then stuck around to help him get set up in his dorm room for his freshman year. A guy with character like that is a blessing to any school that can land him. I'm very happy for the families at Lang to have the opportunity to work with this man, who I barely know myself and hope to get to know better.
